Marvin Rides For His Mother’s Memory

In January 2018, Celia Esquivel was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer. She went through eight months of chemotherapy and surgery at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Her son, Marvin, was one of her biggest supporters throughout her journey. He wanted to make a difference and honour Celia by participating in his first Ride. The Ride was a challenge, but Marvin was motivated by his mom’s journey and all the other riders on the way.

“I asked everyone to sign my helmet with the names of people they know battling cancer,” says Marvin. “It was a humbling experience. Each person told me the story behind the name and the cancer battle they endured.” As he crossed the finish line, Marvin was greeted by his mother, family and friends. He also surpassed his fundraising goal by reaching $3,000 in donations.

Sadly, Marvin’s mother passed away this February. Marvin will continue to share her legacy and honour her journey by participating once again in The Ride this year.
